Coerver Coaching - A Proven World Class Technical Solution to Young Player Skills Acquisition

This program is broadcast on 2xxfm (98.3mhz) across the Australian Community Radio network, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 at 7:00PM.

Tonights program is given to an interview with the Vice President, Asia Pacific Director, Coerver Coaching Asia Pacific, Jason Lancsar.

Jason Lancsar and Holger Osieck, Socceroos' coach at the Johnny Warren Football Foundation function in Sydney

In other programs we have spoken at length to that doyen of Football technical coaches and co-founder of Coerver, Alfred Galustian. Our interviews with Alfred have been rich in content and Alfred has shown a lot of interest in Australia and also works with the FFA in a consulting capacity.

Coerver Co-Founder Alfred Galustian
This interview with Jason Lancsar focuses a little more on the local football scene, through the eyes of a Coerver principal who operates in the most critical area of player development – the acquisition of football skills among young players. The Coerver program is underpinned by a world wide, top quality curriculum, a curriculum that dovetails neatly into the FFA’s National Curriculum. The boys and girls that participate in the various programs get a technical football education that is very difficult, if not near impossible to get elsewhere. It sets the young players up for football for the rest of their playing lives.

Then there is the quality of the Coerver coaches – they are top notch. Their business depends on it. Coaches are the natural leadership group in football and the Coerver coaches set high standards. This is a great comfort to parents.

The thing that I like about Coerver is that it is not elitist, they serve all young players who wish to play the beautiful game – to quote Jason :

“Its an elite program, delivered by elite coaches, for young players of all abilities.”

I think you will find this interview very informative.

  2. Not a cent mate!
I'll give time to any Football organisation that does good work for the game. In the case of Coerver, they are a business as you indicate. No problem with that as far as I am concerned.
My opinion is that Coerver has been value for money over the Capital Football offerrings for years and in the area of expertise that is their business remain so.
Seems the FFA thinks pretty highly of them.
If it were me, I would have Coerver running all the CF development programs for the ages up to Under 12. Have CF outsource it to them. And have CF provide it to the children for free.

  4. Great program with equally good coaches. My son was part of the summer program for 5 years. I'd recommend Coerver to anyone.

On a different note, I see there is a club prsidents meeting with Ben Buckley FFA CEO on the 20th of June. Any idea what that's about Peter? If you don't could you find out and let the fans know please? I hope it's about developing some sort of pathway to NSWPL and beyond.

  5. The President Capital Football, Rachel harrigan told me this week that the CEO FFA v CF Club President's meeting was to pretty much discuss anything the CLubs wanted to pursue. Rachel's concern was that the CLub Presidents (or Vice Pres) might not attend, as she is of the view that this is a unique opportunity to pursue the FFA on issues important to us here in the ACT.
I don;;t know how much communication / notice has been given to CLubs Presidents ( and I should say all of them, not just Premier League) by CF staff. I should have asked that question - I apologise. COmmunication is not CF's most developed capability is recent times.
But Rachel Harrigan is a person who wants to communicate and this meeting between the CEO FFA and the CLub Presidents is important to her and all of us. So Clubs, please support with your best effort have the questions ready.
On the subject of a pathway for our most talented male players (there is no pathway from 17- 20 years)and no prospect of an A League team (nor a A League Youth team)- it is essential that the Clubs pursue the CEO FFA on this matter - relentlessly.
And - I hope that we do not have a cluster of CF staff in attendance, as we saw at the recent AGM. It was a farce then and inappropriate for a meeting between CLubs reps and the CEO FFA.
I hope the appropriate CF staff officer is ringing all Club Presidents to ensure they or their next best rep is in attendance - that is their job.
In summary, all clubs get a good rep with questions to attend, get stuck in and lets not hear a word formt eh CF staff - this is CLub buisness and important business. Hope Clubs see it that way. Support the CF President on this one - its a good way to start effective communication on important matters - and the pathway for male players is a top priority.

  6. Not all of the clubs were represented at the coaching director meeting organised by CF last week ... don't know why ?
However why would the CF staff do the ring around? Is it in their interest to have alot of clubs there whinging about what's not happening in the ACT?
But then maybe I'm just cynical.

  7. Yes I heard the same thing. You make a good point between the lines!

Getting the Clubs to engage is hard work, because they have not been encouraged to do so in the recent past and too often whatthey have to say is deflected, ignored or dismissed by CF staff who arguably (and in my view correctly), are acting in place of the standing comittees, which are a crucial element of the CF Governance process.
It will take time to ensure all the Clubs are fully engaged. The role of staff is one of facilitation, not command! Phone calls to Club Presidents to remind them of the meeting(s) is appropriate to their position.
IF the Coaching Director (assume you may mean the Technical Director) wishes to call a meeting, I further assume their is a protocol for this to happen (eg TD speaks to Standing committee, regional reps) and if agreed, they give active support and contact Club presidents / technical directors etc, and CF staff facilitate the meeting. Did this happen? Is their a practical and timely working protocol that assists? Hmmmm!
CF are a long way from solving their communication problems with CLubs and this is an example, an unfortunate one too, because I have no doubt the CF TD would have plenty to say that was worth listening too.
Too easy to blame the Clubs - far too easy and completely unhelpful.

Capital Football is one orgainstion that needs to learn new tricks. The focus must go off the CEO and staff, and onto the President and Board. All efforts to be directed to engagement with and effective communication with Clubs for the purpose of the development of the game and players.

  8. As far as i can see cf have done quite a bit recently to engage the clubs (agm, new td meeting with clubs, coaches forum as mention above), and no one is interested in attending. Have you been privy to all this communciation? And if not how can you continually bag them for your own perceptions?

I know there are some clubs very interested in the open dialogue that is being created (including my own), and I aplaude them for this. The new TD seems genuine about helping as much as possible and even delievered a grassroots course and gave our club a seperate coaching workshop. This is on top of the increased communication regarding the player nominations for the new elite training squads (which i have only heard great things about with the Under 10s).

And this opportunity to meet with the CEO of FFA is an amazing one that I hope all clubs take up. But unfortunately evidence suggests that people are willing to complain but not put their money where their mouth is. But hey, isn't it easier to do nothing and always blame cf?
