Kanga Cup 2011 Is About To Begin


The Kanga Cup is a fantastic festival of Football held in Canberra every year at about this time and during school holidays.

This is a competition that attracts teams from overseas and inter state. This year :

Overseas entrants

  • PoCheolDomg PS, the junior club to the Pohang Steelers
  • SinGok PS lead from Korea
  • Subang Jaya (Malaysia)
  • Rizal FA (Philippines)
  • Coastal Spirit (New Zealand)
Inter state entrants
  • South Melbourne FC, Doveton FC and Werribee City from Victoria
  • South Australian aces Adelaide City
  • Northern Territory Mindil Aces
  • South West Queensland, Football Wide Bay and the Whitsunday Soccer Association, from North of the State,
  • Tasmania Northern Tasmania, Glenorchy Knights and Tilford Zebras
  • New South Wales Northbridge FC from the Kuringai District, Maroubra United from the Eastern Suburbs, Belmore Hercules from Canterbury District, Fairfield Hotspurs and Tilligerry FC represent the Newcastle Football Association
  • Northern Territory Mindil Aces
  • South West Queensland, Football Wide Bay and the Whitsunday Soccer Association, from North of the State,
  • Tasmania Northern Tasmania, Glenorchy Knights and Tilford Zebras
  • New South Wales North Sydney United, Northbridge FC from the Kuringai District, Maroubra United from the Eastern Suburbs, Belmore Hercules from Canterbury District, Fairfield Hotspurs and Tilligerry FC represent the Newcastle Football Association
And a bucket load of ACT junior / youth teams! Parents are buying out the "oranges" now from the markets - ran into twelve of them today! Gotta have oranges at half time - better than sports drinks! Can only mean one thing - the Kanga Cup is close.

The competition is pitched at various age groups and levels of competition. This year:

  1. You missed North Sydney United from Kuring-gai District, bunch of 10-11 yr olds training with Ac Milan in Sydney playing U12's.

  5. Probably not many know this, but the ACTAS mens squad is traveling to China tomorrow morning for a 10 day 5 game tour. Good luck to our ACT boys, all the best.

  6. I'll interview that ACTAS Mens Coach on his return. Hope they go well - terrific experience.

    Water and snakes - absolutely right. Oranges are for nostalgia. Correct hydration is essential.

    I'll make sure I see the Pillipinas RIFA, get some pictures and put them on the Blog - promise!
